Workshop

With the discovery of superconductivity at temperatures well above 20K in cuprate-oxide compounds 1986 the materials physics community was facing the challenge to fabricate single-crystal type thin films of complex oxides. The prototype materials are the high temperature superconductors with YBa2Cu3O7 and the colossal magnetoresistance materials with La1-xAxMnO3 [ A = Ca, Sr, Ba ] as representatives. Additionally, research on ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials in thin film form received a boost after 1986. Within the frame of this workshop the following main topics will be addressed:

- Thin film deposition technologies for functional ceramics.
- Epitaxial strain in functional ceramic thin films.
- Characterization techniques for functional ceramic thin films.
- Heterostructures for device applications.
- Physics aspects of functional ceramic superlattices.
- Trends in device applications.
